Negli Stati Uniti il mito del centro commerciale è crollato da tempo. Celebre l’inchiesta del New York Times con tanto di gallerie foto con queste gigantesche città fantasma ormai cadute in disgrazia vuote, abbandonate, disertate da molti consumatori stanchi di queste cattedrali moderne del consumo. Tanto che secondo alcuni analisti circa 400 dei circa 1.100 centri commerciali in America chiuderanno nei prossimi anni.
